All of our classes are based around the National Plan. Also, distance badges and Rookie Lifeguard - bronze, silver and gold.

Level 1 Development of water skills without parent or guardian. Travelling in the water with the use of floats or suitable aids.
Level 2 Introduction and development of a range of basic skills. Travelling using a variety of stroke kicking actions without aids.
Level 3 Further skills including jumping into the water and submerging. Introduction of correct breathing technique and breaststroke leg action.
Level 4 Development of new skills including sculling and retrieving objects from the pool floor.
Level 5 New skills including treading water and pushing from the side with correct technique are included. Development of front crawl, breaststroke and backstroke.
Level 6 New skills include surface dives and swimming underwater. Swimming full stroke front crawl, back crawl and breaststroke showing basic technique with regular breathing.
Level 7 New skills include straddle jump entry into water and forward somersault. Kicking 20m in each of the three main strokes using an efficient leg technique.
Level 8 Skills already learned are further developed with rotation skills being introduced. All main strokes are further developed over 25m showing efficient technique.
Level 9 Skills are developed and combined including a full surface dive to retrieve a brick from the pool floor, and carried for at least 10m.
Level 10 Enhanced skills in treading water and completion of a circuit. Swimming three main strokes using appropriate turns. Swimming continuously showing efficient technique with regular breathing aids.
Level 11 Advanced competitive skills including treading water for 1 minute. Introduction of competitive swimming strokes and turning techniques.
Level 12 Advanced competitive skills including racing starts for three main strokes. Advanced stroke development preparing pupils for entry into senior swimming clubs.
